Ash-Shallal Roles

Aside from the common responsibility of all lions to feed and defend the pride...

The Speaker of Manat adjudicates quarrels, supervises offerings and is generally the source of religious knowledge in the pride. This feline knows the will of Manat, goddess of Ash-Shallal Al-Hadi, and thus has a high level of recognition and political clout.
While in theory it is Manat herself who calls her Speaker to the waterfall, in practice it's more frequently the community's choice to ordain them or not.
The monarch leads, and takes the blame for Manat's rage in times of hardship as well as the credit for her beneficence in times of fortune. Theirs is a difficult place to fill.
The heir is chosen to succeed the monarch, and must learn their duty well.

Currently...
Queen Umaiza [Koori] is the monarch of Ash-Shallal Al-Hadi, with Speaker Soraya [Lazyhellion] as her tie to Manat.
An heir has not been named; there is no current need, and the pride is occupied by other things.

It should probably be noted that the child chosen to succeed a Speaker is a lot more like the heir to, say, a family business or a rabbinical dynasty than it is to the heir of a monarchy. Such a role does exist, but our Speaker is barely not a baby anymore herself. ;v; Y u expect her to decide things?

Umaiza's new to this, too. ;u; And Juhudi's still a wee bab, herself, but a lot will probably be expected of her in the future... But all the babies are in this together, and with the whole pride at their backs! No one's alone!
